Essential oils are naturally occurring, volatile aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. What in the world does that mean?  Compounds are small organic molecules that tend to change quickly from their solid or liquid state to a gas at room temperature.  The compounds are volatile because they change state quickly.  Essential oils give plants their distinctive smells, protect them and play a role in plant pollination.

Over 3,000 varieties of volatile aromatic compounds have been identified to date. The nature of an essential oil varies from plant to plant, within botanical families, and from species to species. The delicate ratio of aromatic constituents found in any given essential oil are what make it unique and give it specific benefits.

Essential oils can be used for a wide range of emotional and physical wellness. They can be used as single essential oils or in complex essential oil blends depending on user experience and desired benefit. Research surrounding methods of application show that, when used appropriately, essential oils can be used aromatically, topically, and yes, internally.

The purity of an essential oil is its most important characteristic. An essential oil that isn’t pure means you run the risk of putting germs, heavy metals, or adulterants onto or into your body, which can provoke irritation, adverse effects, or even sickness. Without an accepted standard for essential oil quality, doTERRA created its own testing process, calling it CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade®. The CPTG process certifies that there are no added fillers, synthetic ingredients, or harmful contaminants in their essential oils that would reduce their efficacy. doTERRA even goes a step further, putting all their products and the packaging through a battery of tests to ensure a long and effective shelf-life. This protocol ensures potency, purity, and consistency batch to batch.  Don't be tempted by doTERRA products you see at online retail stores.  doTERRA only sells directly from independent Wellness Advocates, like me.  Products you find elsewhere have probably been compromised.
